Applying for housing

If you’re in need of housing, you could be eligible to apply for public housing from the Office of Housing.

In most cases there is a waiting period as there are a limited number of homes available.

Homes are located in many areas across the state and of varying sizes and types. Because these homes are subsidised by the government, it means rent is less expensive and based on what you can afford.

Whether or not you can apply for housing depends on your needs and eligibility.

If you have urgent needs, because of issues such as recurring homelessness, a disability that needs support, or other special housing needs, you could get priority housing.  Otherwise, you can apply for general housing.

If your application is approved, you’ll receive two offers of housing as properties become available. If you don’t accept either offer, your application will be withdrawn.

Although you can’t choose a specific suburb when applying, you can choose up to three broadband areas where you would like to live.  These areas are made up of a number of adjoining suburbs and towns that are linked by public transport.
