Office of Housing

About us

The Office of Housing provides subsidised housing for eligible low-income Victorians who cannot access the private rental or home ownership markets.

We own and manage or provide funds to agencies for over 77,000 properties, including crisis, transitional, public and community housing.

We are also undertaking a program to increase the number of high quality and environmentally sustainable homes available to suit our client needs.

But Housing is about more than just bricks and mortar. It's about creating a Fairer Victoria one which gives all Victorians the opportunity to participate in school, work, sport, recreation and the community - activities that are fundamental to our daily lives.

Our role

Homelessness and family violence
As well as housing, we provide practical support to help prevent homelessness and to assist people to overcome issues that caused homelessness in the first place.

Affordable rental homes
We are building more high quality homes in places people want to live. We are redeveloping public housing and working in partnership with not-for-profits and other organisations to build more affordable rental homes for low-income Victorians.

Opportunities, support and integration
DHS Housing connects public housing communities with services, including skills training, support networks and employment programs to help people get back on their feet.
