Temporary absence

If you are going to be away from your home for more than six months, you will need to contact your local housing office to let them know.

Your Housing Services officer will need to know the dates that you want to leave and come back and may also ask you for additional information.

Usually, you’ll have to pay rent and look after your home, even when you’re not there. However, in some special circumstances you may be able to pay less rent while you are absent from the property so you should talk to your Housing Services officer to find out if this is possible.

If you’re away for more than six months and you don’t tell your Housing Services officer, we may need to take legal action to get the house back.
