Rights and responsibilities

As a tenant of an Office of Housing property you are expected to observe the rights and responsibilities outlined in your tenancy agreement. Most of these rights and responsibilities are legal requirements in the Residential Tenancies Act 1997.

The tenancy agreement is a legal contract between you and the Director of Housing, and sets out your rights and responsibilities as the tenant and those of the Director of Housing as the landlord.

Your tenancy agreement can be found in your information kit, which you would have received before moving in to your home. This kit includes information on fire safety, being a good neighbour and what to do if you are going to be temporarily absent from your home.

The Office of Housing is committed to providing you with excellent customer service. Our Public Housing Consumer Service Charter tells you about the standards of service you can expect to receive from us.

If you require any further information about your rights and responsibilities as a tenant, please contact your local housing office.
