Training courses

The Public Tenant Employment Program  (PTEP) assists public housing tenants to access training to develop skills to lead to employment. The PTEP team will be in touch throughout your course and assist you with any difficulties you may have. They will also assist you to move into work at the end of the course.

PTEP also covers the course costs for those people who live in public housing and have a concession card.

Certificate 2 in Hospitality

Melbourne and surrounding suburbs

Certificate 2 in Hospitality/Kitchen Operations for 2010 is being offered in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs.  The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

The course will give you skills to work in the Hospitality Industry as a cook or serving customers. 

These courses are delivered on a part time basis.

Certificate 4 in Disability

 

Chisholm, Frankston and Berwick Campus

Chisholm Institute of TAFE is offering a Certificate 4 in Disability Support Services for 2010. The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

The course will give you the skills and qualifications to work in, community and Adult Day Services, Employment Services, Residential Services, Outreach Services and Individual Services.

Please note that applicants need to attend an information session if they are interested in completing this course.  The Information Sessions will be held on:

Certificate 3 Children’s Services

Certificate 3 in Children's Services for 2010 is being offered in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs.  The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

The application requirements require you to attend an information session being held within the month's of October and November 2009; complete an application form, and a face to face interview.

These courses are delivered on a full and part time basis- both during the day and during the evening.

Certificate 3 in Aged Care

 

 

 

RMIT, City and Bundoora Campus

RMIT is offering a Certificate 3 in Aged Care for 2010 at both the City and Bundoora Campuses.  The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

The course will give you the skills and qualifications to work in home support, supported residential accommodation, adult day services, aged care facilities and disability support.

Chisholm Institute of TAFE is offering a Certificate 3 in Aged Care/HACC for 2010 at their Dandenong, Frankston, Rosebud and Berwick Campuses. The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

To get employment in this field, you must have a car and valid drivers licence.

Certificate 4 in Community Services

Certificate 4 in Community Services for 2010 is being offered in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs.  The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

The course will give you skills to work in the community services field as a support worker, case worker, drug and alcohol worker, youth worker or other outreach work.

NMIT Preston Campus NMIT Preston Campus is offering a Certificate 4 in Disability Support Services for 2010. The Public Tenant Employment Program will pay fees for people who live in public / transitional housing and have a health care card.

Find your own course

You can also find your own course at a local TAFE and enrol as long as it is on the list of approved courses and:

• the course is government subsidised and offers a concession rate
• you live in public or transitional housing
• you have a concession card
• you have an appropriate visa to study in Australia

Once you have found the course you would like to study and have ensured that it/you meet all of the requirements above you then need to fill out and submit a Tenant Training Registration form.

We will then notify the TAFE or Training Organisation that we pay for your fees.

Pre-apprenticeships

Pre-apprenticeships available in:

  • Building and Construction
  • Plastering
  • Bricklaying
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Horticulture
  • any other building related pre-apprenticeship
