michaelThe Public Tenant Employment Program (PTEP) helps public housing tenants to develop skills through education and training with a focus on improving employment potential.

Training courses

The PTEP assists tenants to access training in any of the skills shortage areas.

A Certificate Course can run from 2 months to 3 years, depending on the type of qualification and whether it’s full time or part time.

Once enrolled in a course the PTEP team will be in touch throughout your course and assist you with any difficulties you may have. They will also assist you to move into work at the end of the course.

If you are already studying and have to pay fees, we can help pay these (if they’re at the concession rate).

If you are interested in doing a course please complete the Expression of Interest Form.

Current training courses include:

  • Certificate 2 and 3 Transport and Distribution (warehouse store-person)
  • Certificate 2 and 3 Asset Maintenance (industrial cleaning)
  • Certificate 2 and 3 Hospitality (kitchen hand/waiter)
  • Certificate 2 Building trades (pre-apprenticeship)
  • Certificate 2 Automotive (pre-apprenticeship)
  • Certificate 3 Security (security/crowd control)
  • Certificate 3 Children’s Services (child care)
  • Certificate 3 Aged Care (personal carer in aged care facility)
  • Certificate 3 Home and Community Care (home based carer)
  • Certificate 4 Disability Support Services (carer for people with disabilities)
  • Certificate 3 and 4 Community Welfare (child protection worker, community worker)

Job vacancies

Employers and contractors who provide services to the Office of Housing lodge job vacancies with the  (PTEP). These vacancies cover a wide range of jobs including:

  • office work
  • labouring
  • driving
  • cleaning
  • garden maintenance
  • fencing
  • security guard work

The vacancies are circulated via email to tenant groups, community groups, Job Network agencies and Disability Employment Network agencies.

If you are already employed in part time work PTEP can assist you to upgrade or change employment by helping you revise your resume and contacting potential employers on your behalf.
