Types of housing
If you're on a low income and in need of housing, you may be eligible to apply for public housing through the Office of Housing.
There are a number of different types of homes and support services available to help you find a suitable and affordable place to live.
Your needs and eligibility will determine whether and to what extent you will find the right type of home.
General housing
You may be eligible to apply for general public housing if you are unable to find a suitable and affordable home to rent privately.

Recurring homelessness
You may be able to get priority assistance if you:
- Have a history of being homeless or are at risk of long-term homelessness or
- Live in crisis accommodation and need extra support to stay in long-term housing.

Supported housing
You may be able to get priority assistance if you:
- Are living in an unsuitable home that does not meet your medical or physical needs or
- Need specific personal support to help you live on your own.

Special housing needs
You may be able to get priority assistance if you:
- Are living in a house that is insecure, inappropriate or unsafe, or
- Have a serious medical condition that is being made worse because of where you live.

Movable unit
Movable units are self contained, with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and toilet, and a living room with an annex kitchen. If you're eligible, a movable unit could give you a chance to live independently while staying in close contact with family or friends.

Community housing
Community managed housing includes a range of housing options: rooming houses, one and two bedroom units, individual houses and large shared houses for groups of people. Run by Housing Providers and Associations they provide rental properites for those on low incomes.
